Remembering Scott Wike: A Legacy of Leadership, Family, and Community
Peerless Cleaning & Restoration Services is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our former owner, Scott Wike, on January 1, 2025. Scott's impact on Peerless and the communities we serve is immeasurable, and his legacy continues to inspire us every day.
The Early Days: A Leap into Entrepreneurship
In 1978, Scott and his wife, Linda, purchased Peerless Cleaning & Restoration Services from its original owner, Harold Bird. With no prior experience in the cleaning industry, Scott made the bold decision to pursue his entrepreneurial dream. Harold invited Scott to work alongside him, and their immediate connection laid the foundation for a smooth transition.
Under Scott and Linda's leadership, Peerless evolved from a small cleaning company into a full-service restoration business. A pivotal moment came when a fire broke out at their dry-cleaning office. Scott's resourcefulness led him to handle the cleanup himself, which eventually expanded Peerless into fire restoration services-a decision that would shape the company's future.
Building a Family-Oriented Culture
Scott and Linda's dedication to fostering a family-like culture at Peerless left a lasting impression on employees. Longtime employee Connie Vahlkamp shared, "Scott and Linda always made me feel like I mattered, that I was an integral part of what made Peerless special. They truly cared about their employees as individuals, and that connection naturally flowed to Brad when he became the owner."
Many employees, like Connie, found not just a career at Peerless but a second family. The long tenure of countless team members is a testament to the supportive and nurturing environment that Scott and Linda cultivated-a tradition Brad continues today.
Expanding the Peerless Legacy
Under Scott's leadership, Peerless grew into a trusted name throughout the community. His innovative and hands-on approach, including building his own dehumidifiers and fans, showcased his ingenuity and determination. When Brad returned to join the family business, Peerless started growing into water damage, mold remediation, fire restoration, and trauma cleanup services.
Scott's belief in community involvement was another cornerstone of his leadership. From active engagement in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to encouraging employees to be involved in local organizations, Scott led by example and that leadership continues to impact our communities today.
A Devoted Family Man
Beyond Peerless, Scott's greatest love was his family. He was incredibly proud of his wife, Linda, his children Brad and Angie, and his grandchildren. He had a special way of making everyone feel like they were his favorite, and his warmth extended to friends, employees, and anyone fortunate enough to know him.
A Legacy That Lives On
Scott's vision and values continue to guide Peerless under Brad's ownership. His entrepreneurial spirit, dedication to family, and commitment to community have become the foundation of our company's culture.
In a recent podcast episode, Brad reflects on his father's influence, sharing stories about Scott's journey with Peerless and the lessons he passed down. Listen to the full episode here to hear Brad's heartfelt tribute to the man who shaped Peerless into the company it is today.
Honoring Scott's Memory
Scott's legacy will forever be a part of Peerless.
Today, Peerless remains a family business, a testament to Scott's dedication to creating something meaningful for future generations. With Brad leading the company and now Scott's grandson, Matt Wike, contributing his own passion and skills to the business, the Peerless legacy continues strong. It's clear that the values Scott instilled-hard work, innovation, and a commitment to community-will guide Peerless into the future.
We extend our deepest condolences to Linda, Brad, Angie, Matt, and the entire Wike family during this difficult time. Scott's impact on Peerless and our community will never be forgotten.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hope Hospice (9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908) or the American Heart Association.
Rest in peace, Scott. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of your family, friends, and the Peerless team, and the future you envisioned continues to take shape.
